In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to set up and customize the Promo Pop-Up, available in all of our premium themes — and how to create a working discount coupon inside Shopify.

Let’s get started!

Step One — Accessing the Promo Pop-Up Settings

First, open your Theme Editor, and scroll all the way to the bottom.
You’ll find the Promo Pop-Up section there.

You’ll notice four display modes:
Disabled, Test Mode, Success Test Mode, and Enabled.

Use Test Mode when you want to preview and adjust your pop-up — it keeps the pop-up visible while you make edits.
Once you’re done, switch to Enabled to make it live on your store.

Step Two — Timing and Frequency

Next, let’s set up when and how often your pop-up appears.

The Delay setting determines how long a visitor stays on your site before the pop-up shows — for example, five seconds after landing.
The Frequency setting controls how many days will pass before a dismissed pop-up reappears for that same visitor.

These controls help you keep your pop-up noticeable without overwhelming customers.

Step Three — Customizing Your Pop-Up

Now for the creative part — customizing your pop-up content.

Here, you can edit the heading, text, button labels, and even upload an image that matches your brand.
You can also adjust the timer duration if you’d like to include a countdown timer.

Keep your message short, friendly, and clear — something like:

Sign up and get 10% off your first order

Step Four — The Success Screen

When a visitor subscribes, they’ll see the Success Screen.
This is where you can thank them and show your discount code.

Remember, this discount code is just text — it won’t automatically apply a discount unless you create it in your Shopify admin.

Let’s go ahead and set that up.

Step Five — Creating a Discount Coupon in Shopify

To make your discount code functional, follow these quick steps inside your Shopify Admin Dashboard:

• Go to Discounts in the left-hand menu.
• Click Create discount.
• Choose Discount code.
• Enter the exact code you used in your pop-up — for example, EXAMPLE10 or WELCOME10.
• Select your discount type — it could be a percentage, a fixed amount, or free shipping.
• Set any conditions you’d like, such as a minimum purchase or specific products.
• Adjust the usage limits if you want to restrict how many times the code can be used.
• Optionally, set a start and end date.

Finally, click Save.
And that’s it — your discount code is now active!

When customers sign up through your pop-up, they’ll see that same code on the success screen and can apply it at checkout.

Step Six — Publish and Test

Now that everything is ready, go back to your Theme Editor. Switch the display mode to Enabled, and click Save.
And that’s it!

You’ve successfully set up your Promo Pop-Up, customized its content, and created a working Shopify discount code.
